Quantico Security & Driving Considerations

The Quantico Rod and Gun Club is located on the Marine Corps Base at Quantico.  The base extends across interstate route 95 just south of of the Washington D.C. Metro area.  The largest land area of the base but the least developed is located west of interstate route 95.  The Quantico Rod and Gun Club is located on this western portion of the base.  Prior to September 11, 2001 there were multiple access points to this western side of the base.  Since September 11, 2001, vehicular access through most of this western portion of the base is limited to two access points.  These are controlled check points and access controls are subject to THREATCON levels.  Be prepared to show a government issued picture ID (driver's license) for access.  Be aware that vehicles entering the base are subject to search by military police and that the base has specific policies regarding the possession and transport of firearms on base.  See the Marine Corps Quantico web site for details.

One of these checkpoints is located on MCB 1 just past  the junction of Russell Road and MCB 1 just off exit 148S and 148N of I-95.  The other is located on MCB 3 just past the junction of Onville Road and MCB 1 off VA State Route 610.  This control point is located near the Range Management Branch building (24157) near "The Basic School" (TBS).     Refer to the Marine Corps Quantico web site listed above for the most current access control information.  The currently recommended point of entry for access to the Rod and Gun Club is the Russell Road/MCB 1  (Checkpoint 1).

The western side of the base is used extensively for military and law enforcement training including live fire.  DO NOT cross or circumvent a locked gate without proper authorization.  DO NOT venture off hard surfaced roads except as specifically listed in these directions at the Lunga Recreational area.  Access to the western side of the base is controlled by the Range Management Branch except for properly authorized hunters during the hunting season when the Game Check Station acts as an interface to Range Management and authorizes hunter access.  The Range Management Branch is the controlling authority for access to the western side of the base and NOTHING represented on this web site should be construed to authorize access or override Range Management or the GCS.  If you are not absolutely sure about something contact Range Management at 703-784-5321.

Do not exceed the posted speed limits while on base.  Also, please report any game violations observed while on base to the Game Warden at 703-784-5383.
